The Slaughter Rule
This
is a very strange "coming of age" movie about Roy Chutney, played by
Ryan when he was about 19. It involves football, a coach named
Gid played by David Morse who is "probably" gay and has a partner named
Studebaker. Add a few Blackfoot Indians into the mix, a mother
who curls up naked on her bed crying, and a couple of games played in
knee-deep snow that has no spectators Honestly, I have no idea
what the writer or director was going for. I missed the beginning,
so perhaps it explained the plot a bit more. I can say with
certainty that Gosling was excellent as always, the music by Jay Farrar
of Son Volt was outstanding, and Morse was so
bizarre that someone should have thrown a net over him.
