Klimt

It's an "Arthouse Film"
'splains director Raoul Ruiz, not a "bio-pic". Why not name it "Ruiz" then? Or maybe "Artiste Raoul
Ruiz's Interpretation of Gustav Klimt, who's now rolling over in his grave."
Please,
if you're going to direct a movie about one of most interesting and
brilliant artists in the last hundred years, something no one has
previously attempted, leave your own ego at the door. Don't
obscure the genius of your subject with your own "artistic vision"
because no one is interested.
Actually,
it's not as bad as I expected, but then, I expected the worst. It would
have been interesting to see some background on some of his famous
paintings, or to see him painting.. something...anything. Instead, his
last years must have been like a bad acid trip.
Despite
the abundance of nude models including Saffron Burrows as Lea DeCastro,
the film conveyed little of the sensuality of his paintings. Somehow I
doubt that he spent much time in a gorilla suit with prostitutes
wearing fake moustaches, but you never know. It tried too hard to be 'arty' and the trade-off is, it loses human warmth.
Dillane plays "Secretary", a figment of Klimt's imagination who dogs him constantly. Don't expect it to make
sense, but it might be worthwhile if you like the cast.
